Description: Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whoever liveth and believeth in Me will never die. Believe thou this?” - John 11: 25-26 The most solemn week of the Christian year is known as the Holy Week. It starts with Palm Sunday and ends with Easter Sunday. Easter is the celebration of Lord Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead. It bears the witness to God’s enduring promise of eternal life. The pious occasion of Easter knocked the festive gates of Somerville School, Greater NOIDA on the 13th of April, 2022 as the august gathering at the Richard Stanley Khemchand Auditorium witnessed a beautiful opening – with a word of prayer and reading from the Holy Bible. A group of students enacted the sacred Palm Sunday scene to commemorate Lord Jesus Christ's triumphant arrival in Jerusalem amidst the cheers of the crowd. This enactment was wonderfully supported with a Hindi hymn- ‘Yeshu masih, tere jaisa hai koi nahi’ sung by the Hindi Choir, which left the audience enthralled. Then the students enthusiastically enacted the scene of the Last Supper which is commemorated as Maundy Thursday. The night of Maundy Thursday is the night on which Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot in the Garden of Gethsemane. The word maundy comes from the command (mandate) given by Christ at the Last Supper, that we should love one another. The scene showed Lord Jesus Christ breaking the bread and washing the feet of disciples. All the students could be seen doing their best in their assigned roles. The part played by Jesus -washing the feet of his disciples and breaking the bread shook the heart of the audience. At this point, one of our talented students- Malishka, sang ‘Via Dolarosa’, a famous song which was much appreciated. The song tells the story of Jesus’ journey carrying his cross down the Via Dolorosa (Way of Suffering) to the hill of Golgotha, where he would hang on the cross and die to save humankind. The audience was brought to tears as Malishka sang, while a video related to Good Friday was shown which depicted Lord Jesus Christ’s righteous journey. The video showed how Lord Jesus Christ left the comfort of Heaven and took birth in human form, bore our sins on the cross, died, rose again and opened a way of salvation for mankind. The resurrection from the dead on the third day was just as it was prophesized 1600 years ago and His resurrection is what makes Him ultimately the ‘Son of God.’ As the event culminated, honourable Dr. Mary Thomas, Principal of the school, explained the crux of the solemn occasion. Lastly, the Vice Principal of the school, Mrs. Monisha Claudius, sensitized the children about the significance of the day and proposed the Vote of Thanks. Everyone in the hall was mesmerized that day. It was indeed a great learning session for one and all.
