Curricular Activities

OLYMPIADS

Various Olympiads in English, Hindi, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Computers are conducted by the School. This helps students to recognize their capabilities and tap their talents in time.


NEWSPAPER

Learning has become more exciting by linking the daily newspaper with curriculum. The children read the articles in the newspaper and attempt the daily crossword/Sudoko/Spelling Games thus increasing their knowledge and vocabulary as well as sharpening their minds. Newspaper reading and discussion of current news has become a regular part of class room activity. These sessions are followed by quizzes on current affairs. This helps the students to become more aware of the world around them. It also adds to their general knowledge and introduces new topics of discussion.


PEC CARD ACTIVITY

In order to learn and improve their teaching Ms. Shefali Egbert , Ms. Babita Bahl & Ms. Libina Alex attended workshop on PEC(Physical Education Cards) at Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi conducted by Ms. Shemon Mark Anthony. Ms. Shefali Egbert , Ms. Babita Bahl & Ms. Libina Alex conducted a workshop on PEC ( Physical Education cards) for the primary teachers at Somerville School, Greater NOIDA. They taught the teachers all the skills and new techniques learned by them at the workshop conducted at Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave, Delhi.


LIBRARY WEEK

It is often said that for a child, a library card is a ticket to visit faraway lands and meet fascinating characters. It is a place where a child’s imagination takes wings and opens up avenues to express his/her creativity and individuality. To strengthen the above said views, Somerville School, Greater NOIDA observes library week every year. Every year there are various engrossing class activities as well as some very appealing events which keep the students involved for the whole week. Class activities include book making, creative writing, poster making and slogan writing competition.


INDEPENDENCE WEEK

An Independence week is celebrated in the school under the guidance of Social Studies Department to infuse the spirit of Patriotism and pay a tribute to our leaders and freedom fighters for their relentless contributions for our country. Various Activities like Debates, Discussions, Flag Making, and Speeches are conducted as a part of this special program.


ENGLISH AND HINDI CREATIVE WRITING

The Creative Writing Competitions are an opportunity for the children to express their thoughts, emotions, dreams and discover their own skills. These contests help them to build their imagination and develop their writing skills.


ENGLISH AND HINDI POETRY RECITATION COMPETITION

Poetry Recitation is a platform for the children to enhance their oral expression. Students recite poems in well modulated voices with correct diction and intonation. Their expressive and confident tones speak of the effort and endeavour of each participant.


INTER SECTION SPELLATHON

Spellathon is conducted by Somerville School, Greater NOIDA to test the spelling of the children participating in the competition. This is made more participatory by class Spellathon that gives all the students a chance to hone their spelling skills. There are several rounds conducted including a Rapid fire round and an Anagram round where students are given a limited time to evaluate how quickly they are able to spell words correctly.


INTER HOUSE QUIZ COMPETITION

The Annual quiz competitions are held to help test the general knowledge of the students. Mathematics Quiz, Computer Quiz and General Quiz is conducted every year. This helps the students to acquire knowledge about the various aspects and spheres in the subjects other than that contained in the text books. It also makes them aware of the Current Affairs of the world.


ENGLISH EXTEMPORE SPEECH COMPETITION

The English Extempore Speech Competition is conducted with the aim of developing the confidence of students and encouraging them to be able to speak on any given topic as and when required.
